Great Dunmow is one of those Essex market towns that has grown a lot but kept its centre - a timber-framed High Street, a Tuesday market, the odd bit of proper local eccentricity like the Flitch Trials. Scalp micropigmentation suits people who want to look after themselves without making a fuss of it: the appearance of a full, close-cropped head of hair, or more cover where it has thinned, with no surgery or daily upkeep. Kennedy SMP is a small Haverhill studio that works only in SMP, and the first consultation is free, in person or by video.
A little about Great Dunmow
Great Dunmow is a historic market town in the Uttlesford district of Essex, set on the line of the Roman road Stane Street and granted its market charter in the 13th century. It is best known for the centuries-old Dunmow Flitch Trials, in which couples compete to prove they have not once regretted marrying. The old core is a conservation area of more than 170 listed buildings, a timber-framed High Street and a Grade I parish church, wrapped now in newer estates - a prosperous, expanding commuter town that has held on to its character.
Why Great Dunmow clients choose Kennedy SMP
Whether you want a sharp shaved-down look or simply less scalp catching the light on top, the aim is a finish that reads as your own hair rather than a treatment. Stephen works only in scalp micropigmentation, so your session is not squeezed around a dozen other services - it goes on matching your colour, shaping a hairline to your face and building believable density. It recreates the appearance of hair rather than growing it, and every scalp settles a little differently, so you will get an honest picture of what to expect for yours before anything begins.
Real results, real reviews

SMP for Great Dunmow clients - FAQs
Where is the studio if I am coming from Great Dunmow?
Kennedy SMP is based in Haverhill, and Great Dunmow is one of the Essex towns we treat clients from. SMP is specialist, results-led work that people choose for the artist rather than the nearest option, so it is a trip most Great Dunmow clients are glad to make once they have seen the standard of the work. The first consultation is free, in person or by video, with nothing to commit to - it is where Stephen looks at your hair loss and talks through what is realistic. When you book, the full address and parking details come with it, and Stephen does every session himself from start to finish.
Can I start remotely before travelling from Great Dunmow?
Yes - your first consultation is free and can start as a video call from home in Great Dunmow, so you can talk through your hair loss and what SMP could realistically do before making any trip to Haverhill. There is nothing to commit to on that call. If you would rather come and see the studio in person from the start, that is equally welcome, and either way nothing is agreed or priced until Stephen has actually seen your scalp, on screen or in the chair.
How many visits does SMP take for a Great Dunmow client?
It is a short, planned run rather than an ongoing commitment. SMP is built over two or three sittings a few weeks apart, with a review, and the dates are set around your diary at the free consultation once we know how many sessions your treatment needs. After that initial run most Great Dunmow clients only come back for the occasional touch-up every few years. There is no real downtime, so it fits around normal life without much disruption.
Can SMP be removed or reversed?
Yes, SMP is not a lifelong commitment, and it can be lightened or removed if you ever change your mind. Because the pigment sits in the upper layers of the skin and is designed to fade gradually, it naturally softens over the years on its own, unlike a deep conventional tattoo. If you want it gone sooner, laser removal can break the pigment down over a series of sessions, and in some cases the look can simply be left to fade. More often, clients do not want full removal at all but a change, and that is easier still: at a touch-up the hairline can be adjusted, the density refined or the shade tweaked as your own hair or tastes change. The fact that SMP can be reversed or reshaped is one of its real advantages. We will talk through all of this honestly at your consultation so you understand your options before you commit.
